The Studios: TRIP

TRIP is a programme by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, presented as part of The Studios, that aims to provide early-career directors with the opportunity to direct their own productions and showcase their work at the Esplanade Theatre Studio.

On this TRIP, each director will have the chance to direct two productions over the course of two years (one per year) within a safe and supportive environment. Esplanade will produce both productions and provide additional resources by way of the stewardship of an experienced creative and technical team, as well as a professional venue. In Year 1, they will select a work from an assigned pool of scripts. In Year 2, they will be able to stage a work of their choice.

We would like to invite proposals from early-career directors who are looking for the right opportunity to stage works they strongly believe in.  We are looking for directors who are unafraid to dream big, with open minds for learning and collaboration, and are game to take on this challenge.

Directors were shortlisted through an open call and two were selected after an interview with the Esplanade Programming team and a Resource Panel of experienced directors, comprising Edith Podesta, Aidli ‘Alin’ Mosbit, and Sean Tobin. This panel will also provide guidance to the participants through regular consultation sessions.
