After their spellbinding performance at Baybeats 2023, Orange Ocean returns to Esplanade once again with their lush, romantic soundscapes, ready to greet fans once again at Esplanade Annexe Studio.
Inspired by Britpop bands like Blur, Radiohead and Muse, Orange Ocean stands out in China’s burgeoning indie music scene thanks to their catchy guitar riffs and unique world views embedded within their songs. Hailing from the seaside city of Qingdao, China, the band comprises members 2KM (vocals and guitar), Xiao Lu (bass) and Qingxi (drums).
With infectious melodies and ingenious guitar riffs, the band creates soundscapes that they term “ocean romantic”, charged with a sense of youth, freedom and yearning. This is evident in their full-length debut record, Tears in Ocean (2019), which saw immense success, racking up more than 300 million streams on Chinese DSP with hit songs Summer Cozy Rock and You Nuan Chi.
Following their initial success, Orange Ocean went on to collaborate with beloved indie band Fin. on the single M.F.M. in 2021. That same year, the band released the EP Excel, described as “a channel full of unknowns and possibilities... for our connections with each other to surge into.”
