Since 2023, Esplanade’s beloved dance platform, da:ns festival, has transformed into da:ns focus, an exciting year-round season of five themed weekends of distinct focuses. Some of the da:ns focus weekends are accompanied by introductory dance workshops, Footwork, for all ages!
We have specially curated six sessions of Footwork for Just Kids, focusing on flamenco (18 Jan, Sat), contemporary dance (19 Jan, Sun) and ballet (1 & 2 Mar, Sat & Sun). These one-hour sessions will be a great way for older kids to explore learning dance together with new friends!
The Footwork platform consists of introductory dance workshops for all ages:
Adults & Preschoolers (3 – 6 years old)
Adults & Kids (6 – 8 years old)
Just Kids (8 – 12 years old)
Open (13 years old and up)
This workshop is specially designed for young ones aged 8 to 12 years old only.
Only ticketholders will be admitted into the venue for this workshop.
Parents can drop child off at the Esplanade Theatre Studio Entrance (Level 4) 15 mins before workshop and pick up at same location after the workshop.
Please dress comfortably for the workshop.
About the workshop
Let’s move to the beats of flamenco rhythms, explore movements and come up with your own creation! In this workshop, young participants are guided to build body awareness and creative confidence, experiment and interact through dance moves.
About Tania Goh
Tania fell in love with flamenco on a trip to Spain. What started as a hobby turned into a passion and profession over the decades. At the source of the art form, she learnt from Spanish maestros, rooted herself in flamenco and developed an affinity with the local people, the language and culture. Tania is based both in Singapore and Seville. She specialises in flamenco projects (transmitting the art and skills of flamenco) for a global community, in collaboration with her artists and maestros. This includes master workshops for professional and personal growth, curating flamenco culture trips and producing digital courses. Tania loves to share the vibrant Spanish culture that gives flamenco its depth and emotion to touch the hearts of humanity.

Spanish Dance Singapore is a school and performing ensemble founded by Tania Goh. With a close connection to Spain, and an affinity for its culture and lifestyle, it loves to share the richness of dances from Spain, focusing on four key genres: heart-stirring flamenco, elegant classical Spanish Dance, balletic escuela bolera and spirited folk dances.

About Irene Park & Desmond Chen
Irene Park follows her love of flamenco wherever she is, whether it's in Spain or Singapore, Australia, England or Switzerland. She loves to see the fun that people of all ages can have with flamenco, particularly when they see or dance their first steps. She moved to Singapore in 2020 and has been part of Flamenco Sin Fronteras since.
Desmond straddles his love for flamenco with being a drama educator for children. He has been a proud member of Flamenco Sin Fronteras since 2016. He is excited to share his love for flamenco with everyone.

Dive into the art of movement and experience the joy of self-expression and the beauty of dancing together.
This workshop will begin with a warm-up designed to help students connect with their bodies and explore foundational dance pathways and techniques. Through playful improvisation, each child will be encouraged to tap into their imagination and curiosity, to discover their own unique way of moving and interacting with others before learning a little dance sequence.
While learning the dance sequence, students are challenged to not forget their personal flair, making each movement their own. This workshop encourages young dancers to explore with curiosity, communicate through their movements, and discover the artistry in dance.
About Chua Chiok Woon
Chiok Woon is a founding member and a performing dance artist with Sigma Contemporary Dance. Independently, her participation in various dance projects has taken her to festivals locally, including 12.ance Festival, Esplanade’s Huayi - Chinese Festival of Arts and M1 CONTACT Contemporary Dance Festival, and across Asia in Indonesia, Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Aside from performing and her creative work, Chiok Woon actively shares her practice and findings in ballet and contemporary dance with individuals aged from three to over 50 at Sigma Collective Space and Z.en Ballet, which she co-runs.
About Sigma Collective Space
Sigma Collective Space is a studio managed by the Artistic Director, Hong Guofeng and the Founding Dance Artist of Sigma Contemporary Dance, Chua Chiok Woon. Born from a deep passion for sharing the art of dance and the joy of movement, this space aims to engage the Singapore community in the importance of dance and movement. Sigma Collective Space invites people of all ages and backgrounds to form deeper connections with their bodies and connect with their sense of curiosity and wonder through the art of dance.

Dance Thrilogy will be using this class to introduce participants to basic ballet fundamentals. The class comprises four components: welcome and warm up; express, basic ballet and port de bras; free movement; and follow and travel.
Its learning objectives include musicality, body awareness, listening skills, travelling while maintaining posture and arms, intuitive dancing as well as pattern and direction. The class will introduce the foundations of classical ballet such as the use of soft hands and sharp hands, as well as positions for arms, feet and legs.
About Kamilah Turner
Hailing from the United States, Kamilah has worked professionally as a performer and trainer with various dance companies in the US and Britain for the last 20 years. She has extensive experience both as an instructor as well as a performer. This includes having trained under several US dance legends in ballet and modern dance. Highlights of her career include performing with the Lion King cast on London’s West End, where her leadership and teaching skills were put to good use conducting workshops for the company. Following that up with seven tours with Disney Cruises, Kamilah knows better than most just how to take a song and bring it to live with music and movement. Between performing tours, Ms Kamilah hones her teaching skills attending masterclasses and workshops, and teaching at various dance schools.

Few would argue that D3 produces outstanding versatile dancers; the standard of the average D3 dancer is significantly high.

The session fosters coordination and creativity, giving young dancers a sneak peek into the world of dance while having a blast in a supportive environment.
About Nicole Chai
Nicole started dancing at the age of seven under the tutelage of Ms Ong Long at Singapore Ballet Academy. After completing a Bachelor of Arts at National University of Singapore, she decided to follow her passion and pursue dance at LASALLE College of the Arts. In 2019, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance with First Class Honours.
Over the years, she has performed in works choreographed by renowned local and international choreographers such as Martin Schick (Switzerland), Annie & Franck Apertet (France), Theo Clinkard (UK), Jacky Yu (Hong Kong) and Kuik Swee Boon (Singapore). Interested in being more than just a performer, she ventured into teaching, arts management and choreography. Her choreographic works have been presented at various platforms including the ASEAN Youth Cultural Forum, Shantanjali Arts Festival and M1 Contact Contemporary Dance Festival’s Open Stage. Apart from teaching and assisting ballet and contemporary masterclasses, she also had the opportunity to teach creative movement, ballet and jazz at various international schools in Singapore.
In 2017, she joined the Singapore Ballet Academy faculty and has had the opportunity to learn alongside esteemed colleagues. In NUS Dance Synergy, Nicole undertook community-based dance projects which involved elderly, youth-at-risk and autistic children. This sparked her interest in community projects and led her to do an internship at Superhero Me, where she worked with children with special needs.
Nicole is also a recipient of the LASALLE Future Leader Scholarship.
About Sammi Chia
Sammi started her dance training at Singapore Ballet Academy at the age of five and has obtained the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Level 4 Diploma in Vocational Graded Examination in Dance.
She completed her diploma in Business Studies at the Ngee Ann Polytechnic (2020) and she is also a graduate from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) with a diploma in Dance (2023).
During her studies at NAFA, she has performed in several productions, such as Third Space, Crossings, and In Youthful Company at Esplanade and da:ns Festival, and has worked with renowned artists and choreographers such as Yarra Ileto (Singapore), Kuik Swee Boon (Singapore), Jacky Yu (Hong Kong) and Eileih Muir (England).
She was also the production manager for NAFA’s Dance Science Production, supervised by Dr Filomar Cortezano Tariao, where she worked closely with disabled children with cerebral palsy and autism to produce a full-length dance performance.
Sammi began her teaching journey at Singapore Ballet Academy in 2019 as an assistant teacher learning alongside the SBA faculty. She hopes to inspire young dancers and share her passion and knowledge with her students.

About Shan Del Vecchio
Half Thai and half Italian, Shan was born in Chiang Mai, Thailand. He started dancing at the age of 11, learning ballet at Chiang Mai Ballet Academy on a yearly scholarship from 2005 to 2013.
He trained under Kim Matthews and under the director of the school Preeyapun Sridhavat. Shan received the RAD Solo Seal Award in November 2012. He performed numerous lead roles with the Chiang Mai Ballet Performing Group including the Annual Charity Musical Dance Play (2008) where he danced the role of Captain Hook in Peter Pan, Bluebird in Sleeping Beauty (2010), The Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland (2011), Conrad in Le Corsaire and Aladdin in Aladdin (2012), Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid (2013). Additionally, Shan has won the first prize multiple times at the Asia Pacific Dance Competitions.
He joined Singapore Dance Theatre as apprentice in January 2014, was promoted to Artist in January 2016 and was later promoted to Demi-Soloist in January 2022. His repertoire highlights include Variations From A Distance (2021), The Light Behind Us (2021), Mandolin Dance in Romeo and Juliet (2020), Don Quixote, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Coppélia and Giselle. He has also danced in Opus 25, Midnight Waltzes, Serenade, Theme and Variations, Bliss, Peter & Blue series, Sticks and Stone, Shadow’s Edge, Age of Innocence, Symphony in Three Movements, Piano Concerto No.2 Opus 102, Unexpected B, Double Contrasts, Linea Adora, SYNC, 13th Heaven, Unknown Territory, Evening Voices, Quiver and Ibsen’s House.
Shan was promoted to Soloist in January 2024.
About Jessica Garside
Born in Perth, Western Australia, Jessica started ballet at the age of six at Terri Charlesworth Ballet Centre. In 2011, she was accepted into the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), where she had the opportunity to work with choreographers such as Nils Christe, Kim McCarthy and Xiaoxiong Zhang, and perform in a range of repertoire including Serenade by George Balanchine and Jardi Tancat by Nacho Duato.
After graduating from WAAPA, she moved to Germany in 2015 to complete her Masters at the Akademie des Tanzes in Mannheim. During that year, she danced with Badisches Staatsballett Karlsruhe, where she performed in The Taming of the Shrew, Youri Vámos ’ The Nutcracker and The Sleeping Beauty, and Terence Kohler’s Das Kleine Schwarze/ The Riot of Spring. Jessica has also performed professionally with West Australian Ballet in Serenade (2012) and Giselle (2014).
Jessica joined Singapore Ballet as an apprentice in March 2017, and was promoted to Artist in January 2018. Her classical repertoire highlights include soloist roles such as Carbosse in Sleeping Beauty, the Stepmother in Cinderella, and Big Swans in Swan Lake. She has also danced in a range of neoclassical and contemporary ballets, including Serenade, Blue Snow, Jabula and Opus 25, as well as Organ Concerto, SYNC, ZIN! and Purcell Pieces by Nils Christe. Jessica has enjoyed performing many of the ballets by Choo-San Goh, including Fives, In the Glow of the Night, Birds of Paradise and Double Contrasts, and being a part of new creations, such as Evening Voices, Quiver and Without You by Tim Rushton, After Happy Ever by Alice Topp, Rite of Spring by Kinsun Chan, and Reflections by Paul Knobloch.

His repertoire highlights include Variations From A Distance (2021), The Light Behind Us (2021), Mandolin Dance in Romeo and Juliet (2020), Don Quixote, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Coppélia and Giselle. He has also danced in Opus 25, Midnight Waltzes, Serenade, Theme and Variations, Bliss, Peter & Blue series, Sticks and Stone, Shadow’s Edge, Age of Innocence, Symphony in Three Movements, Piano Concerto No.2 Opus 102, Unexpected B, Double Contrasts, Linea Adora, SYNC, 13th Heaven, Unknown Territory, Evening Voices, Quiver and Ibsen’s House.
Shan was promoted to Soloist in January 2024.
About Jessica Garside
Born in Perth, Western Australia, Jessica started ballet at the age of six at Terri Charlesworth Ballet Centre. In 2011, she was accepted into the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), where she had the opportunity to work with choreographers such as Nils Christe, Kim McCarthy and Xiaoxiong Zhang, and perform in a range of repertoire including Serenade by George Balanchine and Jardi Tancat by Nacho Duato.
After graduating from WAAPA, she moved to Germany in 2015 to complete her Masters at the Akademie des Tanzes in Mannheim. During that year, she danced with Badisches Staatsballett Karlsruhe, where she performed in The Taming of the Shrew, Youri Vámos ’ The Nutcracker and The Sleeping Beauty, and Terence Kohler’s Das Kleine Schwarze/ The Riot of Spring. Jessica has also performed professionally with West Australian Ballet in Serenade (2012) and Giselle (2014).
Jessica joined Singapore Ballet as an apprentice in March 2017, and was promoted to Artist in January 2018. Her classical repertoire highlights include soloist roles such as Carbosse in Sleeping Beauty, the Stepmother in Cinderella, and Big Swans in Swan Lake. She has also danced in a range of neoclassical and contemporary ballets, including Serenade, Blue Snow, Jabula and Opus 25, as well as Organ Concerto, SYNC, ZIN! and Purcell Pieces by Nils Christe. Jessica has enjoyed performing many of the ballets by Choo-San Goh, including Fives, In the Glow of the Night, Birds of Paradise and Double Contrasts, and being a part of new creations, such as Evening Voices, Quiver and Without You by Tim Rushton, After Happy Ever by Alice Topp, Rite of Spring by Kinsun Chan, and Reflections by Paul Knobloch.
