Flowers is a project currently in development under Jared Jonathan Luna’s collection, Tik Tok Ethnochoreology. Influenced by Tik Tok dances during the pandemic, this project is an artistic research on the ways that social media has shaped dance practice. In Flowers, Jared tapped members of Singapore’s ballroom and voguing community to explore the concept of dance knowledge borrowed from US Black and Latinx subcultures, and how it is used in place making practices, both in virtual and physical contexts. Jared will demonstrate their process in developing movement-based outputs that were created as part of the research. A short voguing and ballroom jam will follow the demonstration.
Advisory 16: this programme is recommended for 16 years and above as it contains some mature themes
Meeting Point: Please meet at the Esplanade Box Office and Visitor Centre (Mezzanine Level) for admission to this programme as the public entrance to the Rehearsal Studio via the Theatre Studio is temporarily closed.
