Synopsis

Immerse yourself in the captivating realm of Okinawan music. Delve into its rich history, local dialect, and savour their authentic local liquor, all while grooving to modern Okinawan pop tunes. This distinctive musical journey goes beyond the traditional Japanese genres we’re familiar with.

 

Participants will also be given the chance to try their hand at playing the sanshin at the end of the session.

Advisory:

Alcohol will be served during the workshop. Those who wish to consume the alcohol must be 18 years old and above and may be requested to verify their age with a valid photo identification card.

Keisuke Nishihara is a Sanshin  performer from the Ryukyu Islands and has been leader of the Sanshin Shimasenkai group in Shanghai since 2008. He owns UMIBE in Shanghai, serving Okinawan cuisine since 2021 and has been an Uchina (Okinawa) and has been a Goodwill Ambassador since 2022.
