Singa Nglaras Gamelan Ensemble was established in 2004 by Jan Mrazek, and currently comprises students, alumni, and faculty from across NUS, as well as members from outside the university. The group gathers weekly for latihan (practice sessions), where they learn, socialize, and unwind to the soothing melodies of traditional Javanese music. With the support of the NUS Department of Southeast Asian Studies, the ensemble celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2024, an important milestone that was commemorated with Javanese musicians and dancers from Surakarta and Jogjakarta.
