Xiqu Fusion: Teochew Opera Reimagined

Tan Wei Tian started her formal Chinese opera training in Singapore and China at the age of three. Her inspiring opera journey has not only led to her being selected as one of Singapore Tourism Board’s ambassadors for their Passion Made Possible campaign but she also became one of the Younger 14 Asian Females chosen by TEDxSingapore to lead the next generation in preserving the Teochew culture and heritage. In 2019, she set the national achiever record by being the youngest (aged 15) to play the lead role in a full-length Chinese opera, certified by the Singapore Book of Records. She was one of 60 featured inspiring women in Singapore who encapsulated their real-life stories and shared their successes, challenges, passion and ambitions in HerWorld magazine’s 60th Anniversary in 2020. Her inspiring opera journey was also published in CNN Digital World’s Great Big Story and National Geographic magazine.

evanturetime is the artistic alias of Singaporean producer and songwriter Evan Low, who blends genres, concepts and found sounds into a unique auditory narrative that is undeniably and uniquely his. With debut EP folds (2018) and sophomore EP the songs I wrote for you (2022) under his belt, the wunderkind is now diving deeper with the refined minimalism that is evanturetime. Elsewhere, Low’s versatility has seen him take on multiple leading roles in every aspect of the music industry—from engineering for David Foster, to composing for commercial brands and producing and performing alongside Singaporean giants such as Nathan Hartono, Linying and The Sam Willows. Most recently, he co-wrote and produced the well-loved 2021 NDP Theme song The Road Ahead.
