Delicate yet expressive vocals and catchy melodies, underpinned by a driving, alternative rock sound—get ready to be mesmerised by alt-rock trio Hitsujibungaku!
Emerging out of Tokyo, Japan, the present form of the band has been releasing music together since 2017, combining the talents of Moeka Shiotsuka (vocals and guitar), Yurika Kasai (bass) and Hiroa Fukuda (drums). The band first garnered mainstream attention in their home country with the double-single release 1999 / Ningen Datta in 2019, which became a nationwide hit. The group made their major label debut in 2020 with F.C.L.S., which sits within Sony Music Lables, releasing the single Sabaku no Kimi e / Girls.
Thereafter, they release their second full album, our hope, in April 2022. The second song of the record, hikaru toki, was used as the theme song of the anime The Heike Story. In the following year, the band embarked on several sold-out concerts and tours across Japan, hitting big stages at festivals such as Fuji Rock. The band also released their new album in Oct 2023, titled 12 hugs (like butterflies). Most significantly, the album’s second song more than words was used as an ending theme song in the immensely popular anime Jujutsu Kaisen, causing the band’s popularity to skyrocket not only in Japan, but around the world.
2024 has proven to be one of the best years for the band yet: they embarked on their first Asia tour, performing in cities such as Seoul, Bangkok, Shanghai and Taipei, with many more major festival appearances, overseas concerts and collaborative projects slated for the coming year.
