Synopsis

Explorers, adventurers, bravehearts! Our island's oral tradition is a treasure trove of legends that inspire courage and evoke a sense of pride. Discover heroes and leaders of Singapura that once traversed the kingdom beneath the sea and conquered strongmen in competitions.

Be regaled by the story of Raja Suran's expedition as he marched an army of men and beasts in search of an elusive land. Then, listen to the tale of the slave boy Badang whose immense strength brought him royal fame.

Find out more about mighty Raja Suran and powerful Badang through a mix of storytelling, percussive instruments and vibrant illustrations that will set your imagination in motion. Behold the richness of our cultural heritage and immerse yourself in the legends of majestic Singapura.


Learning Objectives

 

  • Develop an awareness of and appreciation for oral narrative tradition
  • Gain exposure to legends that are part of the cultural stories of Singapore
  • Identify different percussion instruments and apply rhythm patterns using body percussion
