This is song & verse.
A family show; but not that kind of family, and not that kind of show. Featuring poems from poet Marylyn Tan's forthcoming chapbook, Unclench, which is about thwarted desire, compulsive habits and unhealthy attachment styles, and portions from the original songs of singer-songwriter Rua, about daughterhood, legacy, and the irreversibility of becoming. We sing, we confront, we remember. We reap, we revel, we take everything home.
Marylyn Tan
Marylyn Tan is a writer, artist and menace. Fair of verse and foul of mouth, she has built her body of work on working with the body. She subverts shame to reclaim power. Her first book, GAZE BACK, made her the first woman in history to win the Singapore Literature Prize for Poetry.
Rua
Rua tells stories, makes songs and sings. She listens as closely as she can, because, sooner or later, what speaks expects and deserves a response. She is here to give it. Through song, she will undress. The mythology is personal, the perishable is remorseless, the reckoning is public. Come watch her cry.
