The clarinet ensemble of the National Youth Winds and the SAF Central Band will perform familiar tunes spanning jazz, ballet and musical theatre classics transcribed for the rich sonorities of the clarinet. Highlights include tuneful selections from The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky, a medley of Glenn Miller’s greatest hits, and two timeless classics reimagined—one from a musical and another of a local flavour!
The performances in Cool Classics 2025 will spotlight local composers and arrangers, highlighting their contributions to classical music in Singapore. The local composer featured in this programme is Germaine Goh.

Founded in 2009 with the mission of celebrating youth talent and fostering musical excellence, the National Youth Winds (NYW) was reestablished in 2024 with renewed vigour and purpose. Presented by the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Central Band, NYW aims to identify and groom talented Singaporean youth musicians. The clarinet sections of the NYW and the SAF Central Band will perform in a combined clarinet ensemble.
The SAF Central Band Clarinet Ensemble is formed by professional military musicians who share a vision to provide dynamic and quality musical experiences for all. As musical ambassadors of the SAF, they perform not only at state functions and ceremonies, but also at annual subscription concerts, outreach events, and international military and music festivals. The clarinet ensemble actively seeks new means to engage with its audiences and is keen to embrace new artistic initiatives and collaborations.
