Discover the storytelling brilliance of award-winning Singaporean filmmaker Tan Wei Ting at Red Dot August this year! Join us as we screen a collection of four short films directed, written and/or produced by Wei Ting. Delve into narratives of everyday Singaporeans and watch these stories that will resonate deeply.

 

 

The Longest-Distance Relationship (2014)

Four friends laugh, ponder, doubt, and struggle as they embark on a journey to understand one another's religions and beliefs.

CA$H (2018)

Four cashier friends face the inevitable as they lock themselves inside their long-time workplace for a hopeless revolt against the cashless system. Can they beat the imminent changes of the future?

Still Standing (2019)

When uniform high-rise government housing began sprouting up in newly independent Singapore, a young and idealistic architect, Tan Cheng Siong, aims to bring the “kampong spirit” back into the city sky with the Pearl Bank Apartments, only to be faced with struggles he never imagined.

 

Inspired by true events.

Love at Fifty (2022)

Kee, a divorced mother of two in her 50s, weighs the prospect of an unlikely romance against its challenges when she meets a jovial—and romantically inexperienced—delivery person at her coffeeshop job.

 

This version of Love at Fifty has been edited from the original for public screening at Red Dot August.

Tan Wei Ting

Tan Wei Ting was first trained in theatre, and later went to film school. Her debut short film CA$H was selected for International Competition at the 41st Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France and went on to travel to 20 different countries.  Film magazine Sight and Sound also listed it as one of the seven best short films in Clermont-Ferrand that year. Her latest short, Love at Fifty, was in competition at the 33rd Singapore International Film Festival, PÖFF Shorts, and crossed half a million views on Our Grandfather Story. She has won Best Directing twice, and Best Editing once at the National Youth Film Awards (Open Youth Category). Wei Ting is from the pioneer batch of ARTivate—Youth Wing of Drama Box. She is a graduated fellow of the Busan Asian Film Academy 2023.
