Synopsis

Cheoyongmu is the only court dance performed while wearing a mask in the form of a human being, symbolising the chase of evil spirits and the prayer for peace. Compared to other Jeongjae dances, it features more elegant arm movements, greater power, deeper flexibility and a confident presence. Recognised for its diversity and creativity as a cultural heritage, it was designated as Important Intangible Cultural Property No. 39 in 1971 and was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009.

In this workshop, participants will:

1. Learn about the costumes and masks

2. Create a mask

3. Practice basic Cheoyongmu movements
