Synopsis

Celebrate the essence of love with an enchanting musical journey presented by flutist Jihyun Chang and clarinetist HaeJin Ryu, accompanied by Mei Hui Tan. Immerse yourself in the enchanting sounds of Shostakovich's Four Waltzes and Saint-Saëns' Tarantella.

Artist Information

Jihyun Chang

Jihyun is an accomplished flautist who has performed at prestigious venues worldwide and at international music festivals, including Carnegie Hall (New York), the Royal Albert Hall (London) and Miyama Concert Hall (Japan). 

 

As an orchestral musician, Jihyun was principal flautist in the National Youth Chamber Orchestra of Great Britain for two years and was selected to perform with the Aurora Orchestra in the BBC Proms Festival at the Royal Albert Hall, conducted by Nicolas Collon. She is also actively involved with various arts groups, including Prime Philarmonic, Cham Philharmonic and Mahlerian Orchestra.  

 

She holds a Master of Music from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and a Bachelor of Music from the Royal College of Music in London, as a recipient of the Deena Shypitka Music Awards, UK Government Scholarship and Career Development Bursary Scholarship. 

 

JIhyun creates colourful, unique programming with academic ideas and holds the title of Series Concert Artist at the Ensemblian Hall in South Korea. She is currently a member of Kunstwerk Orchestra, Renoir Flute Trio and King's Flute Choir. 

HaeJin Ryu

HaeJin is a freelance clarinet player, teacher and mentor of several education institutions in Singapore. 

 

She obtained a Bachelor of Music (Hons) Degree at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (NUS) with full scholarships under Ma Yu (principal of SSO) and Master of music at the Royal Northern College with Entrance Scholarship and Giles Thomas Lyth Scholarship under Nicolas Cox, Anotino Salguero and Chris Swan. 

 

HaeJin has played in orchestras with worldwide famous conductors such as Mark Wigglesworth, Claus Peter Flor, Eiji Oue and Roland Böer. As well as she has experience performing with Singapore symphony orchestra and Hallè Orchestra with a professional experience scheme. HaeJin also has been selected to be a principal clarinetist of Northern Lusofonia Symphony Orchestra (UK), The Young Musicians’ Foundation Orchestra (Singapore) and a formal clarinetist for 42nd Cantiere Internazionale D’Arte (Italy). 

 

HaeJin is passionate about chamber and orchestra music and an active clarinet mentor for young clarinet players at Singapore local school bands and the Korean International School in Singapore

Mei Hui Tan

Born and raised in Singapore, pianist Tan Mei Hui graduated in 2013 from the Royal College of Music in London, studying under the tutelage of Professor Dina Parakhina. She was supported by a full scholarship from the Ministry of Education, Singapore and also received the Amadeus Fortepiano Prize at the College. As a soloist and avid chamber musician, she has had the chance to perform extensively at various venues such as the Royal Festival Hall, Cadogan Hall, Cambridge University and major performing venues in Singapore. 

  

As an educator, Mei Hui is a fervent advocate for music and arts education. She is passionate about bringing the joy of music to youths, and believes that arts education has the power to shape hearts and minds. Drawing from her own enriching experiences, she actively engages in outreach programs, masterclasses and workshops, inspiring aspiring musicians to discover the transformative power of the arts.
