Synopsis

Experience the music of WeMu, a reinterpretation of Korean mask dance, shamanic music, and body percussion.

 

Immerse yourself in the enchanting journey of reimagined Korean traditional music, brought to life through WeMu’s innovative sound.

 

In this workshop, one will: 
1) Learn the rhythm used in Hwanghaedo-gut (North Korean ritual music) or Bongsan Mask Dance with your hands and gestures. 
2) Learn the basic movements in Bongsan Mask Dance with Hansam (white cloth). 
3) Learn the songs (an oral sound) from the music made by WeMu. 
4) Dance, sing, and play together to the music made by Wemu.

10 and above.

WeMu

WeMu is a Korean ensemble that innovates music by incorporating traditional shamanic beats and melodies of Korea. In 2022, they were invited to perform at numerous local and international events including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to which they received raving reviews for their performance. WeMu remains dedicated to reshaping traditional Korean music, both domestically and internationally.
