Gemilang – The Golden Age of Malay Cinema

Gendang Akustika is an urban-based Malay folk music ensemble that aspires to promote and preserve Malay music and culture in today’s fast-paced society. Comprising young talented musicians and vocalists, the ensemble breathes life into traditional Malay music with fresh and invigorating musical arrangements and performance styles.

The northern region of the Malay archipelago, comprising of the northern Malay states of Kedah and Kelantan as well as southern Thai region of Patani, is rich and steep with tradition, beautifully encapsulated in its traditional and folkloric music and theatre. Genbano strives to showcase the music of this region with instruments such as serunai, talempong, canang and gong.
