In conjunction with Red Dot August, Keroncong Bayu SG would like to celebrate local legends and songs in the Malay performing arts scene that incorporate keroncong in their works. Enjoy your favourite local songs with a twist of keroncong, from the songs of Kartina Dahari to those of Teresa Teng
Mask-wearing is required for all indoor events. No tickets will be issued. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Keroncong Bayu
Keroncong Bayu SG was formed in 2021 with Razak as the organisation’s mentor and maestro in Singapore. Keroncong Bayu SG believes in understanding the fundamentals of basic and traditional keroncong before moving towards an experimental exploration of keroncong.
Keroncong Bayu SG performed at Esplanade for Crossing Borders. The organisation was also invited to Solo Keroncong Festival 2022.
Jamilah Samsuri
Jamilah Samsuri has been singing keroncong since young. Her father, late Mr Samsuri, set up a keroncong ensemble in Singapore that was based in Pasir Panjang. Since then, Jamilah has been performing with various keroncong groups in Singapore. She has devoted her whole life to educating and preserving keroncong as much as she could possibly do, out of passion and responsibility. She hopes that keroncong will always be remembered and performed, especially by the youngsters.
Salleh Buang
Salleh Buang is the first local choreographer to experiment with Malay contemporary dance in Singapore. He is the first local choreographer to experiment with keroncong music in his dance piece Lambaian Kipas (Waving Fan).
A man who has a lot of enthusiasm and creativity, he has always been generous with his words of wisdom and ideas in the Malay performing arts scene.
Apart from celebrating these passionate people, Keroncong Bayu SG will also celebrate numerous local written songs and local singers. We will try our best to infuse any pop songs into keroncong without disturbing the essence of the original song yet preserve the authenticity of keroncong input in the songs performed.
