As an extension of The Being: Katanya Dia Aku Adalah (2021), this performance journeys through acceptance and solace. The Being: Dua Diriku summons the process of healing in the wake of grief and pain.
The performance will showcase an exchange of artistic philosophies and the creation process of NAMIE and Muhd Sharul Mohd, whose background is in music and dance respectively.
The Being: Dua Diriku invites the audiences to wander through their personal lens as the artists set the ambience for the evening.
Mask-wearing is required for all indoor events. No tickets will be issued. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
NAMIE
NAMIE is a vocal artist and composer who experiments with sounds and effects to explore and create music that is mostly dreamy and optimistic, sometimes with a hint of melancholy. Her lyric-writing often is an extension of her thoughts and feelings with regards to the world and her being. Fascinated by her environment, she often plays with sounds and objects around her as well as mimicking what she hears. When performing, she is usually armed with her laptop, midi controllers and The Pipe. Despite a seemingly electronic set up, she is not afraid to showcase the intimate and raw quality of the voice and silence. She is currently exploring the vast world of composition, improvisation, sound and movement.
Muhd Sharul Mohd
Sharul is a versatile dance artist with multifaceted experience comprising choreographic work, teaching and performance. From 2007 till present, he has been a Malay dance performer, instructor, choreographer and practitioner with artist Seni Budaya, under the tutelage of Mr Rizman Kassim. He developed a well-honed practice in various forms of Malay folk dance. He has vast experience in performing internationally (Poland, Korea, Sabah, Bulgaria, Istanbul, Hong Kong, Melbourne and Kuala Lumpur), and through a wide variety of platforms and collaborative works.
He was an associate of P7:1SMA Ltd (2019-2022), a dance community, who considers performance-making as necessary disruptions, Malay as a concept, and dance as a strategy for common humanity.
Sharul strives to deepen his perspective through active conversations of dance artistry and his choreographic creativity is grounded in intricate expressions and complexity of movement.
He is dedicated to finding ways to deepen traditional Malay dance in society by assisting people to relate to the art form in new ways, thus keeping the tradition alive and relevant. Sharul is passionate in creating contemporary works that explore movement language of Malay traditional form. Upon graduation from BA (Hons) Dance from LASALLE College of the Arts, he is interested in nurturing his practice in performance-making.
Sharul founded S4cred Conn8tion (Sacred Connection), a dance collective in 2020. The overarching goal of the collective is to provide artistic growth that acknowledges each individual body as a sacred space, where the root of artistry begins from one's journey in life. A space to germinate connection between artists and the community
