Synopsis

Dive into Afrobeat, reggae and ska music with eight-piece group Afrobeat Instigator Orchestra, who will also introduce the origins of this music from Lagos, Nigeria and Kingston, Jamaica, to Singapore.

Instigator Afrobeat Orchestra is an eight-piece Afrobeat Orchestra formed in 2010, currently based out of Singapore. Over the years the band has played numerous venues across the island such as Blu Jaz Cafe, Artistry, Hard Rock Cafe Singapore, Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, The Substation, Red Dot Museum, Timbre Music, Montreux Jazz Cafe. The band also has been featured at various events such as New Year's Eve Countdown 2011 at The Marina Barrage, The Singapore Night Festival from 2012 to 2017 and City 65 Music Festival 2018.

 

True to traditional form, Instigator Afrobeat Orchestra pays respect to the forefathers of Afrobeat while adding their distinct Lion City grit to the mix. Influences of reggae, Afro-Brazilian music, funk and disco seep into their works to define a truly 21st century translation of the Afrobeat genre and beyond.
