In an effort to modernise the stylised form and structure of Bharatanatyam, dance troupe Rasikas will use both traditional and fusion Bharatanatyam movements to present a piece that tells the story of Lord Krishna in a symbolic way. Their performance will take the audience through Lord Krishna’s adventures when he was young, to some of the monumental stories of him throughout his adulthood. Rasikas will be using a combination of both nritta (pure dance movement) and nritya (expressions and communicative aspects) to showcase their love for Lord Krishna as well as for dance.
Mask-wearing is optional. However, audiences are encouraged to continue to exercise responsibility and caution, such as wearing masks when in crowded places. No tickets will be issued. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Rasikas
The dancers of Rasikas have an accumulated 17 years of experience in Bharatanatyam, representing Darshan Fine Arts under the tutelage of Mdm Kamariah Yusuf. Members Ashwini D/O Ganeson, S Hanushyah Devi, Kavya Theenan and Shamini Bala have grown together as a team throughout their journey towards Kalaa Utsavam, where they have broadened their horizons in the art of Bharatanatyam through gathering inspiration from their surroundings to formulate choreography, and express their creativity in other ways like costume design, stage planning, and more. Rasikas hope to fain further exposure through live performances, as they embark on continual growth in Bharatanatyam.
