Arts have always been an integral part of life. In this presentation, AK Theatre will demonstrate how traditional folk arts are intertwined with everyday life, performed at important milestones and commemorative events in a person’s life. The performance features awe-inspiring traditional Marabhu arts forms that show the richness and aesthetic world of Tamil culture and tradition.
These are the three dances presented during this performance:
Kummi is a traditional folk dance of Tamil Nadu, where women dance in a circle formation to the uniform clapping of a song. This vibrant dance is characterised by its repetitive patterns and synchronised steps, performed during festivals and family functions.
Oyilyattam is a graceful dance with intricate steps, with subtle movements that resemble that of martial arts such as silambattam.
Karagamis is an ancient folk dance involving the balancing of a pot on the dancer’s head while following rhythmic steps. The dance represents confidence, happiness and gratitude.
Mask-wearing is optional. However, audiences are encouraged to continue to exercise responsibility and caution, such as wearing masks when in crowded places. No tickets will be issued. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
