Carnatic vocalist Ramya Harish will showcase her learnings through a presentation of traditional aspects of Carnatic music like the Varnam, improvisation of a composition typically called Manodarmam, as well as through the raga Alapana, Neraval and Kalpana swarams, concluding with a tillana. Though her learning journey is vast and endless, she endeavours to present a tiny fragment of the wide ocean covering various classical aspects of the Carnatic music system. Ramya Harish will be accompanied by the budding talents, Sreeranjani Muthusubramaniam on the violin and Tharun Narayanan on mridangam.
Mask-wearing is optional. However, audiences are encouraged to continue to exercise responsibility and caution, such as wearing masks when in crowded places. No tickets will be issued. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Ramya Harish
Ramya Harish is an upcoming Carnatic vocalist and teacher who was initiated into Carnatic music at the tender age of 10. Her initial Gurus were Smt.Shyamala Venkateswaran and Sri.Thiruvaiyaru Sekar in India. After moving to Singapore, she continued her learning under Sri.Poorna Pragna Rao (SIFAS) and later with Smt. Vaishnavi Anand (CHETHAS). She is currently pursuing her talent under the able guidance of Vidwan. Dr. Cherthalai Ranganatha Sharma. Along with being an ardent learner, Ramya also imparts her musical knowledge and strives to build a strong foundation to young talents and passionately prepares her students for temple performances and competitions in Singapore under her institute, Gurukrupa Academy.
Ramya is an active member of the Singapore Indian Orchestra & Choir (SIOC) and is also the choir instructor of the SIOC Youth Wing. She has performed widely with SIOC at shows staged in the Esplanade Concert Hall among other prestigious occasions. As part of this, she was recently featured on Mediacorp’s Vasantham for their Deepavali program Ragangal Palavidam. Among her other artistic pursuits, Smt Ramya’s heart lies with Carnatic music. She is currently pursuing Masters in Carnatic music.
