For young people in Singapore, understanding where they stand amidst such a diverse landscape can sometimes be confusing and isolating. Using the play Between 5 Cows and The Deep Blue Sea… as a starting point, this Theatre in Education (TIE) programme aims to provide an opportunity for teens and young adults to:
Explore their identity amidst the clashing expectations of society, culture and family
Unpack what constitutes their own unique identity, to tune in to their own power and agency.
Participants will first watch a theatre performance of Between 5 Cows and The Deep Blue Sea…, and thereafter attend a three-hour drama workshop that will allow them to understand the concept of identity
Identify unique standpoint(s) for themselves within the clashing expectations that come with identity markers
Challenge conceptions of what it means to be a young person today amidst external pressures and expectations
Practice reflection and self-assurance to encourage agency
Mask-wearing is optional. However, audiences are encouraged to continue to exercise responsibility and caution, such as wearing masks when in crowded places.
