Synopsis

This presentation is a carefully crafted tapestry of storytelling, inviting the audience into the world of veteran performer Azman Shariff, where he weaves together reminiscences of the past, reflections on the present, and aspirations for the future. With the musical talents of his son, M. Afiq Syazani, on piano, accordion, and chimes, along with the melodic voice of longtime friend, Khaziah Yem, the performance becomes an atmospheric sensory experience.

 

Muara Festival is presented by Era Dance Theatre in collaboration with Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay as part of Esplanade’s Pentas series.

Artist Information

Azman Shariff

Azman Shariff is a versatile actor who is skilled in various mediums, including radio, television, stage, and bangsawan. He has also lent his voice to diverse projects. Throughout his journey, he has collaborated with esteemed groups such as Teater 2K, Perkumpulan Seni, Anggerik Temasek Bangsawan, Teater Ekamatra, Teater Kami, Majlis Pusat, Malay Heritage Centre, Sri Warisan Som Said Performing Arts, and the National Library Board.

 

Some of his noteworthy recent ventures include a captivating performance in Bangsawan Dang Anum for the Malay Culture Fest 2021 with Anggerik Temasek Bangsawan. Azman has also directed Sriwana's Bangsawan Puteri Dewi Gemala at the Singapore Bangsawan Festival 2022, and thereafter led the forum, Syair in Bangsawan. These experiences have been invaluable in expanding his artistic horizons.

Khaziah Yem

Khaziah Bte Yem is a Malay language teacher who has written poetry since 2012. Some of her modern and traditional poems have been published locally and internationally in newspapers. She is also actively involved in poetry through the group Syairpura.

 

Her short stories have also been featured in Berita Harian and Sabah Times. She won the Golden Point Award in 2019, organised by the National Art Council, and secured second place in the poetry category. In the Flash Fiction Writing Competition (2021) organised by Unggun Kreatif, she also clinched second place.

 

As an arts enthusiast, she is also actively engaged in theatre under the direction of Mr. Nadiputra.

Afiq Syazani

Afiq Syazani is a versatile musician proficient in piano, accordion, and percussion. He showcases his talents in various ensembles, including AltoAura, Open Score Project, and Orkestra Sri Temasek. Additionally, Afiq contributes his musical expertise to Malay bangsawan productions like Nilam Jauhari and Dewi Gemala by Sriwana. Beyond his musical pursuits, he is an adept coach and creative director. With extensive experience, he conducts workshops on acting and props for over 20 horror-themed events held at Singapore Polytechnic and various community centres.
