Practitioner Nor Azam Hakub from Sri Setia Pulau Singa shares the techniques and methods of playing the gendang Kelantan, a traditional drum used in Malaysian music. Participants will be introduced to the basic anatomy of the instrument, its fundamental playing techniques, and how to produce different sounds, rhythms and beats. For beginners or experienced musicians alike, this class offers a unique opportunity to learn about this rich cultural tradition and a fascinating instrument.
Beginner to intermediate level. Must have some musical experience.
Sri Setia Pulau Singa
Sri Setia Pulau Singa is a wayang kulit group named by Pak Soh, and was formed on 26 March 2012 by youths of Singapore. Coming from dikir barat background, it is no surprise that the members of Sri Setia Pulau Singa developed an intense interest in another Kelantan traditional art form, the wayang kulit Kelantan. Sri Setia Pulau Singa received training from Pak Soh and aims to bring wayang kulit Kelantan into the hearts of Singapore cultural enthusiasts.
