A Symphony of Life explores a garden city that embraces a rich tapestry of cultures. The dance poem centres around a meandering river, symbolising perpetual flow, where banks become a shared space for elements, people, and resources to coexist harmoniously—a vital artery sustaining an unceasing life force.
The performance artfully portrays individuals uniting to form a formidable team. A Symphony of Life conveys a profound message of unity, mutual support, and shared life processes under a common purpose. This dance, embodying the metaphor of the river of life, underscores the strength found in collaboration, prompting contemplation on how collective efforts can lead to a more beautiful and dynamic existence.
The production is part of Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre’s ongoing commitment to explore and develop Singapore's identity in Chinese dance through artistic and creative directions rooted in our local context.

Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre (SCDT) was incorporated as a professional dance company in 2014, with the mission to promote Chinese dance through artistic and creative excellence. Led by current Artistic Director Madam Neo Jenny, SCDT envisions itself as a centre of excellence for Chinese dance both locally and internationally and plays a vital role in developing and exploring the identity of Chinese dance in Singapore.
In recognition of its enduring efforts to the local arts scene, the company is honoured to continue receiving the support of the National Arts Council under its Major Company Scheme in 2016 and subsequently for the period from 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2025. With this given affirmation, SCDT envisions itself as the professional dance company that epitomises the promotion of Chinese dance through artistic and creative excellence and nurturing young, promising dancers to continue its efforts.
Apart from producing innovative and original works that remain relevant to our traditional roots, SCDT is also committed to developing Chinese dance as an accessible art form to the broader community through its Outreach and Education division (OnE). SCDT registered as a charity in 2015 and received the Institution of a Public Character (IPC) status in 2016.
Jenny Neo
Neo Jenny currently serves as the Artistic Director of the Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre (SCDT) and holds teaching positions at Lasalle College of the Arts, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and the National University of Singapore's Chinese Dance Department. She has embarked on a rich artistic journey.
Under the influence of her mother, Madam Lim Moi Kim, Neo Jenny began training in Chinese classical and folk dance at the age of 10, laying a solid foundation for her dance career. In 2004, she received a scholarship to further her studies at the Beijing Dance Academy, specializing in Chinese dance choreography. After graduating with honours from Lasalle College of the Arts in 2009, she actively pursued studies in ballet and contemporary dance, enriching her dance skills and expanding her understanding of choreography. By exploring and practicing various dance styles, she cultivated a diverse creative ability, enabling her to better integrate into and comprehend the atmosphere of choreography, injecting her artistic journey with greater depth and richness.
Throughout her academic journey, she received guidance and collaboration from numerous renowned dancers, greatly enriching her learning experience. In 2019, she successfully completed her higher education and obtained certification as a dance examiner for the Chinese Ethnic and Folk Dance Grading Examination Syllabus (Beijing, China), further solidifying her professional skills in the field of dance.
