Ariadne. Lucretia. Circe. Three heroines whose stories have been passed down to us over countless generations, repeated by men in epic poems, paintings and plays but never in these women’s own voices.
Femme X: Baroque Heroines is the culmination of The Opera People’s 2022 season featuring the stories of women in mythology, with the Singapore premieres of three baroque cantatas by Philippe Courbois, Georg Frederic Handel and François Colin de Blamont that delve into the psychologies of these women. These cantatas will be framed by works of female poets including Eunice Clark, Faustina Maratti Zappi, Carol Ann Duffy as well as instrumental works by Jacques Duphly and Antoine Forqueray.
Femme X features sopranos Teng Xiang Ting, Cherie Tse and Felicia Teo Kaixin with musicians from Red Dot Baroque and guest French harpsichordist Stéphane Fuget.
