Genre-defying psychedelic shamanic funk band CHUDAHYE CHAGIS weaves ancient muga (shamanic songs or chants in Korean) from the Pyeong’an, Jeju and Hwanghae Provinces with elements of reggae, jazz, hip-hop, funk, dance and rock. At the helm is Chu Dahye, a sorikkun (Korean traditional vocalist) whose powerful voice channels the soul of traditional Korean music. Together, CHUADHYE CHAGIS delivers an immersive and dynamic experience that is deeply rooted in tradition yet strikingly contemporary. Their fearless approach has earned them widespread recognition, including the 2021 Best R&B/Soul Song award at the 18th Korean Music Awards.
CHUDAHYE CHAGIS
The band’s name, “Chagi,” means “someone’s share” or “something you claim” in Korean, reflecting their deep spirit of collaboration. With Lee Si-mun on guitar, Kim Jae-ho on bass and Kim Da-vin on drums, CHUDAHYE CHAGIS creates a unified, dynamic sound that invites audiences to claim the music as their own. Each performance becomes a shared “Chagi,” a collective experience that transcends both genre and tradition.
CHUDAHYE (Executive Producer, Artist)
Leader of the Sosuminjok Company and traditional vocalist in Seodo music, Chu Dahye, actively engages in a wide range of arts, including singing, acting, stand-up and dance. Possessing raw and powerful vocals, she has constantly expanded her artistic spectrum across various musical genres and fields, such as performing in bands, in traditional music and theatre. Through collaborations with diverse artists, including the minyo rock band SsingSsing, she has transformed the Seodo and shamanic sounds that were once confined to the past into her distinctive music of ‘here and now.’ Her band CHUDAHYE CHAGIS' album, along with her solo project, boldly highlights her unique dynamic style.
