Synopsis

Open to all Carnatic music practitioners both of intermediate and advanced levels.

 

Join Ramana Balachandhran’s vocal-inspired style of playing the veena as he shares valuable practice methods for Carnatic music practitioners.

Advisory:

This masterclass is recommended for children aged 6 to 12 years old. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. Accompanying adult must be 16 years old and above.

 

Please meet at the Theatre Studio, Level 4, 15 minutes before the start of the masterclass. Thank you.

Artist Information

Ramana Balachandhran

Ramana Balachandhran is a veena player in the Carnatic tradition. The son of Carnatic music practitioners Balachandhran and Sharanya, his talent for music was evident at an early age, when he could identify ragas and discern subtle nuances. Considered a prodigious talent, Ramana was directly awarded an A grade by All India Radio (AIR, the only grading authority in India) after auditioning at the age of 16—a rare honour in AI’s history of over 75 years. Madras Music Academy, the iconic and venerated music institution in Chennai, waived age requirements to invite him to be part of its annual concert series when he was 16.
