SYNOPSIS
“The orchestra, now close to 100 strong, responded with gusto and confidence… for the ‘serious’ items requiring more of an interpretation, the young outfit did not disappoint… the band had indeed come of age.”
- The Straits Times (2008)
The InTempo concert series was initiated in 1974, and stands as the longest running band concert series in Singapore.
The theme for this year's concert is 20th Century Modern Music. Sometimes called the "Dissonant Period" of classical music, this period is known for its extreme inventiveness and experimentations into atonality. The NUS Wind Symphony will be presenting original modern band selections such as Internal Combustion by David R. Gillingham, and Spartacus by Jan Van der Roost. There will also be a showcase of a stage band, consisting of trumpets, trombones, saxophones and percussion.
Don't miss this rare opportunity to catch the premiere performance and be dazzled by their renditions of the popular jazz tunes at Esplanade.
Since its inception in 1968, the NUS Wind Symphony, a member of NUS Centre For the Arts, has managed to establish itself as one of the premiere wind orchestras in Singapore’s music scene. Boasting an illustrious history of 42 years, the wind orchestra counts itself as one of the pioneering bands in Singapore. The NUS Wind Symphony currently consists of over 100 musicians – a full-sized wind orchestra complemented by harp, piano and other instruments.
